Oh No!

I thought I’d do a short blog about this song. If you missed it, we put the video online a few weeks back. We are also letting people download it for free right here - http://www.facebook.com/swound.

Oh, and here is the video. I hope you like it.

Oh No! is the 2nd song we’ve previewed from our forthcoming album. The first was Everybody Hates Her, which you can see and hear by clicking this link - THIS ONE. We decided not to give Oh No! a proper single release for a few reasons. Firstly, we actually think that it’s one of the weakest tracks on the album (seriously, our album is THAT good) and secondly, we wanted to get it online ASAP to show something to all the people that support us and have been asking when they’d be able to hear something new. I hope it didn’t disappoint!

Why did we chose Oh No!? Well, we kind of had this rad and totally original idea for a video which for some strange reason popped into our heads after watching Scott Pilgrim for the 15th time. Oh No! really suited that concept as it’s one of the more fast paced, energetic songs on the album. On top of that, people that had heard it tended to like the song.

We filmed the video at the village hall in Egmanton, where our parent’s live. They were kind enough to cancel their weekly ‘numbers club’ so that we could film. Apparently they get two people turning up to it every week. The shoot took about 3 or 4 hours and we got help from our pal Simon with the filming as we were pre-occupied pretending to play our awesome song. Lloyd and I did all the After Effects on it. We are both pretty proficient with Adobe Premiere but had only limited experience with After Effects, so we basically had to teach ourselves from scratch. This took a long time.

Learning to do the effects was pretty tough. I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing and had to spend days watching the smallest clips from Scott Pilgrim, trying to work out how they’d done certain things. I think it was worth it in the end. I REALLY encourage anyone who’s only seen the video once to re-watch it a few times to appreciate some of the detail that went into it. I’m sure there’s little things that I spent far too long doing that nobody has even noticed. And for anyone who’s used After Effects before I’ll tell you this: Rendering is a massive bellend.

Anyway, that’s all for now. thanks to Edgar Wright for saying nice things about the video. See his blog HERE

Finally, here is an article in the latest issue of the Egmanton Village Newsletter about us. Someone told us they’d made a mistake but I still can’t see it:
